What I Did

Why does this project exist?

You get to work on Monday, open a project you were working on last Thursday and can’t remember where you left off. You can check the git history, run a git log, read commit messages… but what you really need is to see the actual changes from the last commit to regain context.

What I Did does exactly that: a button in the editor toolbar that opens a diff with the previous commit’s changes. Without leaving VS Code, without opening the terminal. It detects file renames and handles edge cases well: new repositories, files with no history or files moved between folders.

In the future I want to improve its efficiency. Maybe navigate between commits, a more polished interface… I don’t know, I need to think about what I really need to see when I’m in that situation. For now it’s a proof of concept.

If you like this project and want to share an idea to improve it, send me an email or reach out on LinkedIn.
